Railway axle bearings are subjected to heavy impacts and loads. The installation space is also limited, therefore double-row bearings which are compact and have a high load rating are used in many cases. Moreover, in bearings used for grease lubrication, we offer a bearing unit which is pre-filled with grease and combined with an oil seal to make handling easier.

In railway applications, bearings need to comply with several customer requirements. These include the need for reliability, extended maintenance intervals, space-saving design capabilities and more.
We offer solutions for a wide range of wheelset designs for all kinds of railway rolling stock. This includes high-speed trains, diesel and electric locomotives, diesel and electrical multiple units, passenger coaches, freight cars and mass transit vehicles like tram cars.
Around the world, in every climate, ranging from moderate to tropical desert to sub-zero wilderness, our wheelset bearings are helping reduce operating temperatures, extend maintenance intervals and reduce costs in railway applications.
The limiting factor to have long maintenance intervals for a wheel-set bearing is the grease life Grease life is affected by:
• mechanical stress in service
• pollution from external factors
• temperatures in service
Grease life (and consequently TBU maintenance intervals) can be increased by providing a relubrication in service: An amount of fresh grease is pumped into the unit and mixed with the already used grease In this way it is possible to respect the most demanding maintenance intervals
