The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has standardized these bearings for adapter applications and requires case carburized steel for inner and outer rings as well as rollers. SKF offers a special assortment of inch size TBUs which comply exactly with the AAR specifications. For high-speed and very high-speed applications, both case carburized and through hardened steel is used, depending on the application requirements.
